A Year in Review | 2012

if I had to choose a word for this year, it would be growth. in all areas of my life (academically, as a photographer, spiritually, emotionally) i have seen improvement! specifically in my photography, i've been able to experiment more—and so learn more what my "style" is. there have been new experiences that i've had to experience, new cameras and equipment, new people...now new friends:)
so thank you, to all the new friends! those who have been willing to let me learn more about you through the lens of my camera, to drag you through mud or fields for "that one photo!" or get up before the break of dawn so that the light will be perfect for your session. none of these images would be possible without you!
2012 was a good year, but I fully expect 2013 to blow it out of the water! it holds so many wonderful surprises for all of us, of this i am sure. and i already have a few surprises up my sleeves, so be prepared:)
cheers! here is a tiny glimpse into 2012. in backwards chronological order, 'cause that's how i roll.

home is one of the sweetest words I know. | personal

hello hello hello! you may have noticed (or not!) that there have been no blog posts for about 2 weeks. the reason, of course, would be that I was not at home. nor was I in country, actually! I spent just a little over a week in the destitute but gorgeous place called Haiti, and I knew from day 2 that I didn't want to leave. I'll hopefully be sharing more about my trip soon, as well as getting back into the swing of regular business & such, but for now I'll leave you with this little teaser of my new favorite adventurous, precocious, south carolinian speakin', 6-year-old girl. midterms are next week, but once those are done you shall surely see more of me around here!

do you like pie? | personal

I'm sitting at my desk, sipping on hot tea while my ears are serenaded by the Michael Buble Pandora station, and I'm smelling pumpkin. Which happens to be my favorite pie, come holiday season!
What I haven't mentioned to many people is that I am planning on going to Haiti with my church in February. They sent a team last February, and since that (& seeing photos from 2 other young photographers who have gone to Haiti in the past year), I've been praying for the opportunity to go! I'm trusting that God will provide financially for me to be able to go & serve the Haitian people. There will be 3 teams, and I'm not sure what one I'll be put on (or what I'll be doing.) What I do know is that I'll be the team "journalist"--taking lots of photos and writing down lots of stories.
The other day, the idea came to me that...I can make pies! And people like pies, especially during the holidays! So, if you're interested in supporting my trip to Haiti & live in the Cedar Valley, I'd LOVE to bake you a pie or two! The three types I'll be preparing are apple, cherry, and of course pumpkin!:)

Other ways to support me, if you don't live here locally or don't like pie, would of course be just plain financial support, booking a family session before Christmas (more on that soon!), and prayer. Prayer support is huge, both prior & during my trip. I'd be humbled & blessed if you'd remember me and the rest of our team in your prayers.
